Principal - Yvonne Blair
I am the principal and feel so lucky to be in such a cool school. I have now been here for five years and enjoying every day. The children are wonderful, caring, keen learners.
I have fifteen years principal experience in small rural schools and value a local community and family atmosphere. I am passionate about teaching and learning and am here to support the teachers in providing a range of activities and experiences to enhance learning. I have three adult children and six beautiful grandchildren. I like to travel and have seen most of New Zealand and quite a bit of the world. I still believe New Zealand is the place to be!
Debra Lydon - Senior Teacher
I am the teacher of the senior room, years 4-8. I have worked at Waikari School since 2008.
I have a passion for maths and science. I was awarded a Science Teacher Fellowship and spent six months being involved in local environmental projects. This experience has changed the way we think and implement science at our school. I love the outdoors and spend many weekends enjoying our beautiful mountains, rivers and beaches. I am an excited and creative teacher who believes in nurturing a thirst for learning in a variety of experiences and opportunities.
Caryn Hunt - Secretary/Teacher Aide/Bus Driver
I first started working at Waikari School in 2007. Being in a small school often means wearing many different hats for all staff, and my position is no exception. I enjoy every aspect of my job and the varied role means that I get to know every student really well.
One of my great joys in life is to dance, and this has been something that I have enjoyed introducing to the children at Waikari. In fact, I think that the end of year prize giving which is accompanied by a dance recital is now firmly a tradition - and something a bit unique to Waikari.
Claire Jevins - Junior Teacher
Claire has been teaching in the junior room since 2016. She is a very experienced teacher with a wide knowledge of the school curriculum. Claire has three young children of her own so relates well with our younger children. She has also taught seniors and is versatile teaching both classes. Claire leads the school in Te Reo.
Vicki is our learning assistant . This is Vicki's second year at Waikari School and she has become a valuable team member. She works within the classroom supporting children as well as working on literacy programmes with individual children.
Victoria is new to our team and is our cleaner. We thank Victoria for keeping our school fresh and clean.
